History of the Hamilton Veale Eye Test

Why John developed the Hamilton Veale Macular Check?

Macular degeneration is the most common cause of loss of vision in the western world. Cases of macular degeneration will increase as our population ages.

John Veale sees more and more cases in his busy optometric practice and in the Low Vision Clinic. He wanted to design a simple card that thoroughly checks eyes for the slightest macular change.

The Hamilton Veale Macular Check took two years to design and the result is a simple single card which is easy to use, easy to record results and should be the gold standard for testing the integrity of the macula.

It should be part of every eye exam whether the exam is being performed by eye specialists, general practitioners, nurses or other health professionals.
